How to change the color of selected text in Microsoft word

When a user selects a text while using Microsoft Word 2019, the display in grey color. In the earlier version of the Word processor, there was an option to change the color of the selected text; however, in the latest series of Microsoft Word in the conjunction with Windows 10, the option is limited. It can do by amending “Registry Editor”. Here are the basic steps to accomplish the task.

  1. Open the Search bar in the “Windows 10” setting and search “Registry Editor”.
  2. In the opened dialog box “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?” Select “Yes”
  3. Navigate to “Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word\Options”
  4. In the working area, right-click and select “New” and navigate to select “DWORD (32-bit) Value”. It will lead to the creation of a file name. Rename the file name “NoTranslucentSelection”
  5. Right-click on the newly created file and select “Modify Binary Data”. Change the value data 00000000    01   00    00   00.
  • Close the Registry Editor
  • Open the Microsoft Word. Selected text color would change from grey to black color.

Selected text/selected image would change from grey colour to black color.

How to change selected text/selected image colour from black to grey colour.

The process is reversible. i.e., the color of the selected text/selected image can be changed from black to grey color. There two steps to accomplish the task.

  1. Deleted the newly created file “NoTranslucentSelection” as discussed above.
  2. Alternatively change the value data to 00000000    01   00    00   00. In order to do this, right click on the file and select modify binary data. Replace 01 with 00. Changed value would appear like 00000000    00   00    00   00.
  • Close the Registry Editor
  • Open the Microsoft Word. Selected text colour would change to grey from black color.
